Police: Shot fired into apartment through ceiling, two arrested

Among the two arrested was a suspect whom police had shot in an October 2023 incident.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Two people were arrested Tuesday after an incident involving a shot fired into a central Toledo apartment from another unit, according to a police report.

Crews were dispatched to apartments in the 1000 block of Dorr Street at approximately 8 a.m. regarding a call for shots fired. A resident told Toledo police the apartment had a bullet hole in the ceiling that came from the apartment above.

Police said they made contact with multiple occupants in the apartment above, leading to an investigation and the recovery of three firearms. Officers arrested Darnell Peppers, 24, who was charged with having weapons while under disability, indictment or conviction of a felony. Peppers was indicted on three charges in October 2023 after police claimed he turned toward officers while holding a gun. Police then shot Peppers in the leg.

Following the most recent arrest, a judge set Peppers' bond at $20,000. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 9.

A second person, 21-year-old Davonte Millhouse, was also arrested at the apartment on a warrant Tuesday, though the charges were unrelated to the shooting. Millhouse pleaded no contest to charges of receiving stolen property and walking along or on a highway after officers said they observed him with a stolen handgun in April 2023. He was sentenced to 180 days in prison.

Police said Tuesday's incident did not result in any injuries.
