Police issue warrant for suspect wanted in east Toledo homicide

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are seeking information on a suspect wanted in an east Toledo shooting that killed a woman last month. 

According to a social media post by Toledo police, Deondrae Ballard, 32, is wanted in the fatal shooting of Elisha Meraz on Oct. 26. Police said Ballard is 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 150 lbs. Ballard has black hair and brown eyes. 

Ballard is accused of shooting Meraz at the corner of Church Street and Prentice Avenue around 1 a.m. Officers found Meraz suffering from a gunshot wound. Meraz was treated at the scene and transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In a police report, officers said video surveillance and witness statements were a part of their investigation.
