11-year-old arrested, charged with felony for alleged hoax shooting call at Findlay middle school

The girl is a student at the school, police said in a press release.

FINDLAY, Ohio — An 11-year-old girl was arrested and charged with a felony Thursday after allegedly making a hoax call about a shooting at a Findlay middle school.

According to a press release from the Findlay Police Department, officers responded to Donnell Middle School around 11 a.m. after receiving a 911 call. In the call, the caller, whom police described as a child, said they were at the middle school and claimed someone had a gun. The caller then hung up.

Police responded to the school, where they were able to determine there were no active emergencies occurring. Donnell Middle School administration put the school on lockdown while the situation was investigated.

Law enforcement said they were able to determine that an 11-year-old girl, who is a student at Donnell, was in possession of the phone that made the initial 911 call.

Police found the suspect juvenile and said in the report she confessed to making the hoax call.

Officers arrested the suspect and incarcerated her at the Wood County Juvenile Justice Center. She was charged with inducing panic, a second-degree felony.

This comes as schools across the country, including in Ohio and Michigan, have received unfounded threats in recent weeks.
