LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — A former Maumee foster parent and Springfield Township firefighter was sentenced to prison Thursday after pleading guilty to sex crime charges in a Lucas County court.
According to Maumee police, Jeremy Chesser was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to 14 years and 4 months to 17 years and 10 months in prison.
Chesser withdrew his previous plea of not guilty in July and pleaded guilty to one count of gross sexual imposition, one count of endangering children and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Chesser initially pleaded not guilty to 19 charges, including child sex crimes in Lucas County, before his change of plea.
Maumee police said Chesser is scheduled to be sentenced in Federal Court in November to additional years of prison on charges related to child sex abuse material.
"The dedicated work of the FBI task force and Maumee Detectives resulted in this predator being removed from society. There is no sentence harsh enough to offset the long term damages caused by child predators," Maumee police said in a Facebook post.
Chesser is the father of 10 children, several of whom are foster children. He was a foster parent at the time of his arrest in August 2023.
