Former Waite HS student pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter

TOLEDO (WTOL) - A former Waite High School student charged with murder has changed his original plea.

In court on Wednesday, former basketball player Carl Banks withdrew his former not guilty plea and plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Banks is accused of shooting and killing Jerry McNeal in 2017.

Banks was 17 at the time of the murder, but is being charged as an adult.

With his guilty plea, Banks could face up to 11 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Restitution, other financial costs and potential registration as a violent offender pursuant to “Sierah’s Law” is possible, according to court documents.

Banks will be sentenced on April 9 at 1:30 p.m.
