TIFFIN, Ohio — The Seneca County Sheriff's Office arrested a Fremont man on Friday for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a residence in Tiffin that was later found on fire in a suspected arson about six miles south of the city.

Austin Adams, 38, was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and is being held in the Seneca County Jail, the sheriff's office said in a social media post.

The sheriff's office says the Old Fort Fire Department and deputies extinguished the flaming vehicle, a sedan, which was found on fire in front of a residence on state Route 53 near County Road 90.

Deputies then discovered the sedan was reported missing from a Tiffin residence and "possibly deliberately set on fire." The state fire marshal's office was called in to investigate the potential arson.

The sheriff's office later identified Adams as the suspect who stole the vehicle and arrested him.

“The immediate collaboration between our Office and the Tiffin Police Department was instrumental to apprehending the suspect moments after the alleged Arson, and we are now following up on the entire investigation with the State Fire Marshall’s Office. A job well done by all!" Seneca County Sheriff Fredrick Stevens said.
