HENRY COUNTY, Ohio — An incident involving a suspect crashing into property and vehicles across two counties resulted in minor injuries to two deputies Friday.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office were called to an address on County Road W in Liberty Township on Friday. While responding to the residence, one of the individuals involved left the scene, according to a press release from Henry County Sheriff Michael Bodenbender.
A Henry County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on the scene and began investigating. It was discovered that the suspect, 47-year-old Mark Szabo, had allegedly crashed into a residence multiple times, as well as other objects on the property, including crashing into a full propane tank and a parked vehicle. Szabo then left the scene.
Szabo was later seen approaching the scene by the responding deputy. Szabo struck the investigating deputy's marked patrol vehicle, which was occupied by a sheriff's office K9 and fled the scene again. The patrol vehicle, after being struck, hit the deputy who was standing by it.
Szabo then left the scene and proceeded into Fulton County.
A second responding deputy followed markings on the roadway to try and locate Szabo. While looking, the deputy found Szabo's vehicle. Szabo is accused of then driving directly at the deputy and striking the patrol vehicle head-on.
Szabo was taken into custody and taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.
The two deputies, who were not identified, were treated for minor injuries and the sheriff's office K9 was not harmed.
The case is still under investigation and numerous criminal charges are pending, according to the sheriff.
