MONROE, Mich. — A scene has been rendered safe after a homemade explosive was found in a vehicle after the arrest of a wanted fugitive in Monroe on Thursday, police said.
According to a post on Facebook from the Monroe Public Safety Department, the wanted fugitive was arrested at the Pilot gas station at 1100 N. Dixie Highway. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed a "suspicious device."
Monroe police said that the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene and determined the suspicious device was a homemade explosive. Authorities said the "immediate area" was evacuated.
The bomb squad rendered the scene safe and cleared around 5:10 p.m., according to police.
Monroe police said that the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. The identity of the suspect was not provided.
