Kidnapped woman rescued after Wood County traffic stop

A car driven by a Cincinnati man was pulled over in Cygnet and the sheriff's office determined that the female passenger was allegedly kidnapped.

CYGNET, Ohio — A Cincinnati man is facing kidnapping charges after being stopped by the Wood County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff's office, they stopped a vehicle in the Village of Cygnet around 12:20 p.m. for a traffic violation. The car's driver, identified as Langston Campbell, 27, of Cincinnati, had a 29-year-old female passenger in the backseat.

The sheriff's office said they separated the Campbell and the passenger and learned that the unidentified female had been reported missing on Jan. 10 by her mother from San Bernardino, California.

While interviewing the female, deputies said they determined that she and her two-year-old son had been allegedly kidnapped and held against their will in Detroit, as well as in Port Huron, Michigan.

Campbell was arrested and booked into the Wood County Jail on two counts of kidnapping. Detectives then transported the female to Port Huron, and with the help of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, were able to successfully secure the child who was in the care of the suspect's mother, the Wood County Sheriff's Office said.
