Joyriding children take mom's car, crash it after leading police on chase

The driver, an 11-year-old, fled the scene and crashed into a parked car. They and a 12-year-old passenger then ran on foot before officers caught up with them.

Two children crashed a stolen vehicle into a parked car after leading police on a chase in East Toledo early Monday morning.

Toledo police told WTOL 11 around 1 a.m. they tried to pull the driver over for not having their headlights on. The driver then fled from police and ended up crashing into a parked car on Platt Street near 6th Street.

The two children, an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old, got out of the car and ran but officers caught them a few blocks away and took them into custody.

Both of the children were taken to the hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported.

The kids were eventually released into the custody of their guardians with pending charges, according to a police report.

Police at the scene told WTOL 11 the car belongs to the mother of one of the kids involved.
