One dead after north Toledo double shooting; juvenile victim in critical condition

Both victims were transported to the hospital via ambulance. Joshua Davis, 44, was shot twice and died from his injuries, the coroner said.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are investigating a north Toledo shooting that killed one person and injured another Thursday.

Police responded to the intersections of Lake and Elm streets around 4:30 a.m. after two people were shot in a residence. Emergency crews were seen performing CPR on both victims as they exited the house.

Both victims were taken to the hospital via ambulance. One of the victims, 44-year-old Joshua Davis, died of his injuries.

Davis was shot twice in the torso and his death was ruled a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds, the Lucas County Coroner's Office said Thursday.

The second victim, whom police described as a female juvenile, is in critical condition, according to the release.

Toledo police said they believed an argument led to the shooting.

Crime tape was set up around the perimeter of the scene, while a TPD crime scene unit arrived on scene. Police officers searched the property and spoke to witnesses.

Neighbors told WTOL 11 the area was quiet until they abruptly heard gunshots.

Police did not name any suspects.

Friends of Davis on Thursday comforted one another at a vigil in front of his home, where the shooting happened.

Antonio Johnson, a friend of Davis, says friends and family called him "Jericho."

Johnson said he was at the house not long before the shooting took place. He then went to work, where he later learned the news.

"I got a call from his kids' mother that he had passed on in a tragic way that we weren't expecting," Johnson said.

The way Davis' life was taken makes this harder for friends to process.

Johnson still wants people to know the kind of person Davis was.

"Just how silly he was, how real he was; he was very family-oriented," Johnson said. "His vision was crazy for things that he wanted to do in life, even involving everybody else that's around him. He was willing to involve everyone around him in what his vision was."

Toledo City Council member Vanice Williams told WTOL 11 that Davis is her cousin.

She said that while Davis' family is grieving, they urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to speak up.
