MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — Michigan State Police officials released more details Tuesday regarding a trooper-involved shooting that took place Monday night.
According to MSP, a 6-year veteran of the MSP shot an 18-year-old white man from Monroe, who was coming at the trooper and not heeding warnings to stop. The man who was shot was listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.
Michigan State Police released these details on Tuesday:
The trooper was responding to a 911 call for a disturbance and observed the white male walking with a large knife. As the trooper stopped the patrol vehicle, the subject unsheathed the knife.
The trooper attempted to contact the subject, who walked towards the trooper with the knife in hand. The trooper attempted to increase the distance by backing up and subsequently shot and injured the subject.

The subject was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo and is currently in critical condition.
The subject is an 18-year-old white male from Monroe. The trooper is a six-year veteran of the Michigan State Police, he is currently assigned to the Monroe Post.
The incident remains under investigation and will be the final update pending prosecutor review.
A witness told WTOL 11 he saw a younger male brandishing a knife and charge at an officer. He added the officer gave four to five commands to stop before shooting.
Police say the trooper was not injured and is doing well.
This is the fifth officer-involved shooting in which police fired a weapon to take place in southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio, and the second in Monroe County this year.
