Two detained after 6-hour holdout at a home following an attempt to execute search warrant in Fremont

The two residents were uncooperative, remaining inside a home on S. Wood St. for over six hours after authorities attempted to execute a search warrant, police said.

FREMONT, Ohio — Two people were detained following a lengthy holdout with law enforcement at a home in Fremont.

The Sandusky County Special Response Team attempted to execute a search warrant for a criminal case involving a firearm Wednesday afternoon at 508 S. Wood Street near Hayes Avenue, according to Fremont police on the scene.

Two residents, later identified by police as Terrance Cavin, 37, and Alicia Karnatz, 34, refused to cooperate with law enforcement around 4 p.m. and refused to exit the home.

FPD said Cavin allegedly made statements that he was going to come out and shoot law enforcement and that officers "be ready."

Fremont police and the Special Response Team worked to resolve the matter for nearly six and a half hours, with the residents surrendering themselves around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Both Cavin and Karnatz are in the Sandusky County Jail facing charges of obstructing official business. Fremont police said they expect additional charges after the investigation.
