TOLEDO, Ohio — Three dogs were rescued and one is still missing after an overnight break-in at Lucas County Canine Care and Control on Friday.
According to court documents, Maurice Carter, 43, of Toledo, is accused of breaking out a window to the facility and then leaving with four dogs from the location once inside.
According to LC4, three of the four dogs were located on Friday in the 1700 block of Belmont Avenue and safely brought back to the facility. Lola, a black and tan German Shepherd with medium-length hair, is still missing.
If you see Lola, you're asked to call LC4 at 419-255-8443. If it is after normal business hours, you can call the Toledo Police Department non-emergency line at 419-255-8443.
"The Board of Lucas County Commissioners and the LC4 leadership commend the Canine Control officers who worked to safely secure three of the missing dogs. We also want to thank the public for their show of support and their patience today," a press release from the Board of Lucas County Commissioners said.
LC4 remains closed Friday and anticipates resuming normal operations on Saturday.
The facility said due to the closure, it will be extending the three-day stray hold period by one day. LC4 said they anticipate the facility will resume normal operations on Saturday.
Carter was arrested, booked at the Lucas County Jail and charged with breaking and entering to commit theft or felony trespass unoccupied structure by force. He is scheduled to appear in Toledo Municipal Court on Monday.
