TIFFIN, Ohio — A 42-year-old man was arrested in Tiffin Tuesday night for a domestic violence search warrant following a five-hour standoff with police.
Curtis Elkins was arrested outside of an apartment at 40 W. Market St. just before 8:30 p.m. and turned over to the Fremont Police Department, Tiffin Police Department Chief David Pauly said.
Elkins was also being investigated for and had charges pending on two counts of felonious assault, one count of weapons under disability and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, Pauly said in a press release.
Tiffin police responded to a mutual aid request from Fremont police to help locate Elkins Tuesday afternoon. He was found to be hiding in the West Market Street apartment, and after "several failed attempts to make contact" with Elkins and ask him to surrender, a perimeter was set up.
Pauly said more attempts to contact Elkins failed, so multiple other area law enforcement were called in to assist and Elkins eventually surrendered without incident.
A search warrant into the apartment is being conducted by Tiffin police.
