SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — A man was found guilty Thursday of aggravated vehicular homicide in a 2022 crash in Sandusky County that killed a Bowling Green State University student and injured multiple others.
In addition to aggravated vehicular homicide, James Baker Jr., 44, was found guilty of three counts of aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and two counts of improperly handling a firearm while intoxicated.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Sandusky County Courthouse.
David "Ryan" Walker, a BGSU student, was killed in the Sept. 4, 2022 crash that happened along US 6 near milepost 5. In a statement commemorating Walker's academic achievements, the university said three other BGSU students were also injured in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Baker Jr. was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 6 when he "drove left of center and attempted to pass several vehicles," before striking two vehicles and ultimately colliding head-on with the vehicle Walker was a passenger in.
