TOLEDO, Ohio — A Lucas County grand jury on Thursday indicted a man accused of shooting and killing 11-year-old Nathan Sumner and injuring his 14-year-old brother in 2021.
Tyler Williams, 22, was indicted on one count each of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
Williams is already serving a 10-13.5 prison sentence after he took a plea deal last year for injuring Nathan's brother, Miguel, in the August 2021 shooting.
The Sumner boys were both shot in the head while playing basketball outside their home in the 300 block of Austin Street in north Toledo.
The boys were taken to the hospital and Nathan died two days later. According to court documents, Miguel has permanent brain injuries from the shooting.
Marquise Figures, 18, a second suspect accused in the shooting, was sentenced in August of this year to 20-24 years in prison after he withdrew his previous plea of not guilty and then pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and attempt to commit murder.
Figures was 15 at the time of the shooting.
