MAUMEE, Ohio — Zachary Boyer pleaded not guilty to several charges Monday, including murder, for the death of another man after an altercation at Sidecut Metropark in November.
A judge set Boyer's bond at $250,000. He was arraigned on Feb. 14 and is scheduled for a pretrial on March 13.
A Lucas County grand jury indicted Boyer, 34, on Jan. 23 on the following charges: murder, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, felonious assault and aggravated assault.
According to police, Boyer seriously injured 76-year-old John Meeker after an altercation near the Silver Lake area of the park in Maumee on Nov. 4, 2023.
An autopsy revealed Meeker sustained blunt head trauma that included a skull fracture and underlying injuries to the brain, according to the Lucas County Coroner's office. The coroner said Meeker was found down at Side Cut Metropark and remained in the hospital until his death on Nov. 15.
