Man pleads guilty in 2023 Toledo strangulation death

TOLEDO, Ohio — A man pleaded guilty in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Thursday to a charge involving the death of a woman in south Toledo in 2023. 

According to court documents, Mark Hatcher pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. A judge sentenced him to 11 to 16.5 years in prison. 

Hatcher was arrested in September 2023 after he was accused of strangling and ultimately killing 47-year-old Shannon Graham. Graham's body was found in a residence on Brownstone Boulevard. She was declared dead at the scene. 

Hatcher, who was 44 years old at the time of the incident, was arrested and charged with murder.

According to court documents, the strangulation happened during a physical altercation between Hatcher and Graham.

The Lucas County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy on Graham and determined the manner of her death to be a homicide.
