North Baltimore man sentenced to 5 years in prison for I-75 school bus crash in September

Aaron Hilt pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated vehicular assault and one count of OVI in February. On April 3, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio — A North Baltimore man was sentenced to prison for crashing into a school bus with students and faculty on board on I-75 in Sept. 2023.

Aaron Hilt pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated vehicular assault and one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. 

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for each of the five aggravated vehicular assault charges, for a total prison time of five years. He was also sentenced to six months in jail for the OVI. 

Hilt's license was also suspended for six years and he must pay restitution to the victim's families in the amount of $4,804.67.

The crash happened at 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2023. on I-75 south near Eagleville Road.                                     

Hilt hit the rear of an Arlington Local School District bus with his pickup truck while both were traveling southbound on I-75. The truck then ran through a right-of-way fence off the road, crashed and caught fire on Insley Road on the west side of I-75, according to authorities.

The school bus was transporting 26 Arlington junior high football players. Six juveniles were hospitalized after suffering from minor injuries. Hilt was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The bus driver was uninjured and was able to stop the bus safely on an exit ramp.
