TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was arrested Friday morning for allegedly walking toward One Government Center in downtown Toledo holding what turned out to be a fake gun, according to police.
Police said Henry Blade, 34, of central Toledo, was observed by an officer walking directly towards One Government Center just before 8 a.m. and "tactically holding what appeared to be a handgun."
According to TPD, the officer attempted to get Henry to drop the weapon, later determined to be a toy gun painted black, but the suspect allegedly refused and said he would have to be shot. Police said negotiators eventually were able to get Henry to comply and he was taken into custody and charged with inducing panic.
One Government Center was put into lockdown and surrounding streets were closed during the incident. No injuries were reported.
According to court documents, Henry stated to police "he was going to be like Tamir Rice." The suspect also allegedly identified himself to police as "Tamir Rice."
Rice was a 12-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer on Nov. 22, 2014. Friday marked 10 years since his death. Rice had a pellet gun without the orange safety tip in his possession at the time of the shooting.
