MAUMEE, Ohio — Maumee police have arrested a man for bribery after he sent a city administrator vaguely threatening text messages asking for a job.
According to a statement on Tuesday from city spokesperson Nancy Gagnet, City Administrator Patrick Burtch received a text from resident Danny Cobb last week that Burtch then reported to authorities.
Maumee police investigated the incident and obtained a search warrant for Cobb's phone and a warrant for his arrest. Cobb, 36, was arrested on Monday and booked into the Lucas County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of bribery, according to court records.
Cobb was arraigned in Maumee Municipal Court, had his bond set as own recognizance and was released. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday morning.
Cobb's text messages, provided to WTOL 11 by the city, show Cobb making vague references about silencing opposition to Burtch and requesting a job with an annual salary of $80,000, a $2,500 signing bonus and dental insurance.
