MAUMEE, Ohio — UPDATE: Jose Jiminez-Jiminez was indicted by a Wood County grand jury on Oct. 2 on charges of failure to comply with an order of a police officer, a third-degree felony; and operating a vehicle under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
The original story is below:
A 39-year-old Detroit man was booked into the Wood County Jail on Sept. 13 after running from police and being apprehended by a local mayor the day prior.
Jose Jiminez-Jiminez was arrested in Wood County after video shows the Ohio State Highway Patrol chasing his vehicle along the Anthony Wayne Trail in Maumee.
Jiminez-Jiminez eventually crashed into Maumee Mayor Jim MacDonald’s vehicle in Wood County.
MacDonald is a former police officer who was able to assist in the apprehension of Jiminez-Jiminez.
The city of Maumee released this statement on the involvement of Mayor Jim MacDonald:
“A high-speed chase is very dangerous and we are grateful that no one was seriously injured in the incident. We are also grateful to the law enforcement officers and Mayor Jim MacDonald who were successfully able to apprehend the suspect and get the situation under control.”
MacDonald’s truck was totaled in the incident according to the City of Maumee.
The city says the mayor sustained minor cuts and bruises but is otherwise fine.
Jiminez-Jiminez was initially charged with Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, and Failure to Comply with an Order from a Police Officer in Perrysburg Municipal Court.
It’s unclear why police were chasing Jiminez-Jiminez.
