BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported a home invasion that occurred in the early morning hours on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
According to authorities, the Monroe County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that an unknown suspect was attempting to enter a home in the 9000 block of Olde Hickory Lane in Berlin Township.
Upon arrival, deputies found the suspect walking in the road near the home. The suspect became combative towards deputies as they attempted to take him into custody. The suspect was said to have been in possession of a large, fixed blade knife.
Further investigation showed that the homeowner was awoken by sounds of banging on the front door of the home. When the homeowner opened the door the suspect spit in his face and attempted to kick and push his way into the home. The homeowner was able to prevent the suspect from gaining entry.
The suspect then walked away from the home and proceeded to slash tires on the homeowner's vehicle in the driveway. The whole incident was recorded on a ring doorbell camera.
The suspect was later identified as a 27-year-old man from Monroe. The suspect was lodged at the Monroe County Jail for attempted home invasion, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property and concealed carry of a weapon.
The suspect's identify is being withheld pending arraignment in the First District Court of Michigan.
