Monroe County commissioner sentenced for federal drug charge

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — A Monroe County commissioner was sentenced to prison last week after pleading guilty to a federal drug charge. 

According to court documents, Commissioner Mark Brant pleaded guilty in the US District Court in the Northern District of Ohio to one count of Maintaining a Drug-Involved Premises on March 20. He was sentenced on Sept. 11 to 18 months in prison and will be on supervised release for two years after his incarceration.

Brant's Dec. 15, 2022 indictment accused him of distributing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and marijuana in violation of federal law. 

According to the Monroe County website, Brant represents district 2 in the county, and is the chairman for the board of commissioners.

WTOL 11 reached out to Monroe County Commissioners for comment but did not immediately hear back.
