MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A suspect in a home invasion was injured early Tuesday during a home invasion when Monroe County authorities said he was shot by a crossbow.
According to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement responded to a home in the 4500 block of Huron Street in Frenchtown Township after receiving a call regarding an in-progress home invasion shortly before 12:30 a.m.
The residents of the home told deputies they were at home when two suspects broke into the home. One of the residents then shot one of the suspects with a crossbow.
The suspects then fled the area, and shortly thereafter, authorities located the suspects. The injured suspect, described by the sheriff's office as a 32-year-old male from Newport, had a wound from the crossbow. He was treated on scene, then transported to the hospital for surgery and remains in custody.
The second suspect was located nearby and transported to the Monroe County Jail. Authorities described this suspect as a 41-year-old man, also from Newport. Both suspects' identities are being withheld pending arraignment.
Authorities said in the press release that the incident appeared to have stemmed from an earlier altercation, and the victims and suspects knew each other.
"This is not believed to be a random act of violence," the sheriff's office said in the press release.
