MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — A Toledo man is in jail after an alleged "road rage" incident involving an unregistered handgun Saturday afternoon in Monroe County.

The incident happened on northbound I-75 near the 4-mile marker in Erie Township, according to a press release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough. Dispatch received a 911 call regarding what the sheriff's office described as a "road rage" incident around 3:21 p.m. on Saturday.

The caller, who was also the victim, said that the driver of a white Dodge Durango stopped his vehicle in the road, exited and pointed a handgun at the victim.

Both the victim and another witness provided detailed descriptions of the suspect’s vehicle as it fled the scene heading northbound on I-75.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies and officers from the Luna Pier Police Department responded to the area. The vehicle was stopped and searched by authorities.

During the search, deputies discovered an unregistered handgun, according to the sheriff's office. The driver, identified as a 34-year-old man from Toledo, did not have a valid license to carry the firearm. He was arrested and booked at the Monroe County Jail on the charge of carrying a concealed firearm.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.

The incident is under investigation by deputies Cody Carena and Steven Schmidt of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Services Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7548.
