MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A Monroe man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and assault and battery after allegedly assaulting a woman at a department store.

Avery Williams, 24, allegedly approached a woman at a department store on Telegraph Road on Monday asking her to assist him with a TikTok video and then attempted to "draw attention to his clear state of arousal," according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Williams then assaulted the woman as she attempted to leave the area, according to authorities.

Detectives investigated the incident, identified the suspect as Williams and arrested him.

Williams was arraigned before a Monroe District Court judge Wednesday on two counts of criminal sexual conduct of the fourth degree and one count of assault and battery.

"Sheriff’s detectives are asking the public to come forward if they are aware of any additional incidents at area retail stores that are similar to this reported incident," according to the sheriff's office.

Anyone with information on this case or similar cases is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
