MONROE, Michigan — A woman was arrested and charged with a felony after allegedly abandoning one of her children in Monroe Tuesday, according to the city's safety department.

According to a social media post from the Monroe Public Safety Department, a 26-year-old woman was arrested in Detroit after she allegedly left her 3-year-old daughter at a home in Monroe. In the post, authorities said the woman, whom they described as "transient", arrived in Monroe with her 2-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter.

The woman and her two children stayed with a Monroe resident for several days, before the woman then allegedly left the home, unannounced, with her son. The daughter was left behind, police said.

Police investigated and, with the help of her relatives, located the woman in a hotel near the Detroit Metro Airport. Romulus police arrested the woman, who was later extradited to and jailed in Monroe.

The woman, whose name was not released in the post, is expected to be charged with the felony child abandonment. Police claimed she admitted to detectives that she knowingly left her child with strangers.
