Olympic boxer Oshae Jones changes plea, ordered to complete diversion program

Jones is facing three misdemeanors following her 2022 arrest. Her case will be dismissed if she completes the program on time.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Olympic bronze medalist boxer Oshae Jones was ordered Thursday to complete a safety and justice class stemming from her 2022 arrest.

Jones changed her initial plea from not guilty to no contest on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and failure to disperse. She was arrested July 31 after police broke up a large gathering at her Toledo home at 4 a.m.

Jones is required to complete the class by April 28. If Jones completes the class on time, her case will be dismissed, according to court records.

If she does not complete the class, she is required to appear again in court on May 2.

According to Jones and her attorneys, she was sleeping inside her home when police arrived and started banging on her door. Body cam video showed Jones walked outside and asked multiple times for badge numbers of the officers.

Last year, her attorneys demanded the city drop all charges and issue an apology, and claimed one officer used excessive force. The video shows Officer Ashlyn Pluff hitting Jones in the head.

Pluff was reprimanded by the department last month for the language she used while arresting Jones. The use of force was ruled by the department to be justified.
