Toledo police release results of third operation targeting Lagrange Corridor

Police say the law enforcement portion of the effort was successful and describe the next step as improving quality of life in the Lagrange Corridor.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police announced Tuesday the results of the law enforcement portion of Operation L.A.S.E.R. 3.0, the third iteration of a project targeting crime in the Lagrange Corridor. 

In a press release from the Toledo Police Department, law enforcement said the department's Toledo Enhancement Area Method (T.E.A.M.) began the third Lagrange Area Safety Enforcement Response (L.A.S.E.R.) on April 22, alongside other local, state and federal agencies. Police described the purpose of the operation, which had previously been enacted in January 2022 and August 2023, as a way to improve quality of life for the residents of Toledo.

Toledo police described the law enforcement portion of the operation as successful. The operation focused specifically on addressing gun violence, narcotics sales, traffic violations, juvenile offenses and blight, police said in the release. 

Police included in the release a set of statistics describing the outcomes of Operation L.A.S.E.R. According to the document, the operation included the following results:

  • Guns seized: 18
  • Search warrants executed: 11
  • Dollar amount of drugs seized: $267,305
  • Persons arrested: 173
  • Citations issued: 445
  • DUI arrests: 6
  • Parking tags issued: 160
  • Curfew violations: 6
  • Gun safety programs: 6
  • Gun safety billboards: 4
  • Blight properties/city referrals: 154
  • Community events: 3
  • CPTED (Area businesses and school contracts): 34
  • Junk/abandoned cars towed: 125

Operation L.A.S.E.R. 3.0 will continue, albeit in a new phase, police said. Going forward, the department intends to partner with other Toledo public service departments and the community with an aim to improve the quality of life in the Lagrange Corridor. 

Statistics from L.A.S.E.R. 2.0, which operated in August 2023, include the following:

  • Guns seized: 35
  • Search warrants executed: 21
  • Dollar amount of drugs seized: $76,530.
  • Persons arrested: 249

In January 2021, the first Operation L.A.S.E.R. saw the following results:

  • Guns seized: 52
  • Dollar amount of drugs seized: $274,175
  • Persons arrested: 212
