OREGON, Ohio — Oregon Police Chief Mike Navarre addressed the public Sunday with updates on Saturday night's officer-involved shooting at Kingston Court Apartments.
Navarre identified the man shot by police as 30-year-old Victor Dale.
A total of 21 shots were fired between the two officers responding, identified by Navarre as Joel Turner and Logan Nitkiewicz.
Navarre said Dale was hit twice - once in the shoulder and once in the neck - as he tried to leave the scene of a reported domestic situation in his car. Dale reportedly struck an officer who was standing in front of his car shortly before shots were fired. Dale himself was reported to be unarmed.
Navarre said that after Dale was hit, officers administered first aid.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called in to respond to the scene to investigate.
According the Oregon dispatch, Dale was released from the hospital on Sunday and is not facing any charges at this time.
Navarre said he has reviewed body cam footage, but it will be up to BCI when that footage will be able to be released.
In addition to the BCI investigation, an internal review will be conducted.
Dale was transported to the hospital and was last reported to be in serious, but stable condition and is currently in the intensive care unit.
The officer struck by Dale's vehicle was also sent to the hospital and treated for mild injuries.

Reporters at Sunday's press conference did ask if it was protocol for an officer to stand in front of a vehicle in these types of situations, however, Navarre declined to comment.
Navarre announced his intention to join in a protest later that day at noon and asked the public to give the department a chance to conduct a full investigation.
