Oregon police have arrested a 19-year-old in the alleged armed robbery of a United States Postal Service worker on March 12.
Damere Wilson was arrested on Monday by OPD, in a joint investigation with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations, for robbery, theft of mail and possession of postal keys.
Oregon police said Wilson was booked into the Lucas County Jail and all charges have been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
According to a police report from Oregon police and a police social media post, an officer responded to the Piccadilly East Apartments in the 2700 block of Pickle Road at about 12:15 p.m. on March 12 regarding an armed robbery. The victim, a postal worker, told officers she had been delivering mail on foot to the apartments for approximately 20 minutes when she entered an apartment building to place mail in a secured mailbox.
While placing mail in the boxes, a suspect approached the victim from behind, placed a gun to her lower back and demanded the worker's postal keys. The victim complied, handing the suspect the postal keys. The victim said the suspect was wearing a black ski mask, a black hoodie and black pants.
The worker was examined by a postal inspector for injuries, who said the worker had a red mark or impression where the gun was pointed, but otherwise did not have any injuries.
After the robbery, USPS was offering a reward of up to $150,000 for any information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
