2 people arrested for stealing military grave markers from Sandusky-area cemetery, police say

SANDUSKY, Ohio — Two people have been arrested for stealing brass military grave markers from a cemetery in Perkins Township, police say.

Amy Christiansen, 51, and Chad Burdue, 40, were arrested on charges of receiving stolen property and criminal mischief, according to the Perkins Township Police Department.

Many of the markers recovered were in rough condition, but the department said Erie County Veterans Services provided new markers and display poles for all seven of the veterans who had theirs stolen. The department provided a list of all seven veterans:

Perkins Twp. police said it had been alerted the markers were being sold on Facebook Marketplace, but it was unknown what cemetery the markers were from.

The department noted that Officer Ryan McDermott combed the Perkins Cemetery, next to the Milan Road exit on state Route 2, and identified the veterans.

A "new and advanced" security system has since been installed at the cemetery, the department said.
