TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are investigating after a person was shot in a west Toledo neighborhood on Sunday evening.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Brussels Street and Kelly Avenue around 11 p.m. According to a Toledo police report, crews were in the area of Upton and Sylvania after hearing approximately 15 gunshots. Police then received a 911 call saying a child had been shot and a home was struck in the 1500 block of Brussels Street.
Police responded to the location and located a 5-year-old child. According to police, the victim had been struck in the face with a gunshot while laying on the couch. The building had also been struck "numerous times" police said.
According to police, the victim's injuries appeared to be "serious but not life threatening."
Police set up crime tape around the home while they investigated and located several shell casings in the street in front of the residence.
Multiple evidence markers could also be seen in the street.
