TFRD: Person stabbed in west Toledo Wednesday evening

Toledo Fire and Rescue said they responded to a standoff on East Northgate Parkway when they found one man stabbed and suffering from life-threatening injuries.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to include new information made available in a Toledo police report.

One person was hospitalized after a stabbing and standoff in west Toledo on Wednesday evening.

Toledo Fire and Rescue said that it all started around 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of East Northgate Parkway near Telegraph Road and North Detroit Avenue. Crews were called to assist police with a barricaded person.

According to a Toledo police report, a 62-year-old stabbing victim was "able to seek medical aide" and the suspect was barricaded in the home. A court document indicated the victim was stabbed in the neck and chest with a pocket knife. Authorities on scene told WTOL 11 the victim's injuries were life-threatening.

Police claimed they attempted negotiations with the suspect, and when they failed, SWAT forced entry into the home.

Police took 40-year-old Christina Vega into custody and transported her to the hospital. The report did not specify the nature or severity of the suspect's injuries. On Thursday, she was arraigned on two counts of felonious assault. A judge set her bond at $100,000.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.
