Police: 4-year-old boy shot in central Toledo

The child was taken to the hospital in what police described as stable condition after being shot on Miller Street between Blum Street and Nebraska Avenue.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A 4-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after being shot in central Toledo Thursday evening, according to Toledo police.

Police responded to the shooting in the 600 block of Miller Street between Blum Street and Nebraska Avenue after 8:30 p.m.

The boy was taken to the hospital in what police described as stable condition after being driven by car to a nearby fire station.

According to authorities, they believe the 4-year-old was not the intended target but was unintentionally injured in what police said was a separate altercation.

Officer Prince Flores with TPD said the boy was outside of a residence when the shooting occurred. He said police believe whoever was shooting was across the street on Miller Street and shooting at a group of people when the child was struck.

Detectives said they found over 10 shell casings in the area.

According to TPD, no one is in custody at this time and the shooting is still under investigation.

"It is important to report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood and that people should always trust their instincts. If something doesn’t feel right or a situation appears to be getting out of hand, please call for police," Flores said. "We are always able to arrive to a scene and hopefully mitigate any issues before they turn violent."

If you have any information, you are asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
