SANDUSKY, Ohio — Sandusky police arrested a man and charged him with murder after his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter was found dead on Thursday.
According to the Erie County Prosecutor's Office, Devin O'Brien called 911 around 9 p.m. on Thursday to report the 3-year-old missing when he could not find her after waking up from a nap at an address the three lived at just west of Sandusky.
Police searched the surrounding area near the property on Venice Road and found the 3-year-old dead. The prosecutor's office did not say where exactly the body was found.
The 3-year-old's cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation/strangulation and was ruled a homicide, according to an autopsy report Friday from the Lucas County Coroner's Office.
Police determined there was enough probable cause to arrest O'Brien and charge him with murder, said Kevin Baxter, the Erie County prosecuting attorney.
Baxter said the 3-year-old's mother was in Cleveland at the time of the incident.
