REPUBLIC, Ohio — The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation after two people were found dead in a backyard in rural Seneca County.
The sheriff's office says they were called to a home on the 6400 block of East Township Road 106 east of Tiffin on Sunday.
When deputies and emergency services arrived they found 52-year-old Erik Werling and 52-year-old Dawn Werling, lying in the backyard of the home, both deceased with gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office says it appears one of the deceased sustained a gunshot wound and the other sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but says more investigation is necessary to make a conclusive statement on exactly what happened.
In the meantime, the sheriff’s office says they are opening a “questionable death” investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the victims’ deaths.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is also involved in the investigation.
