SPENCERVILLE, Ohio — A western Ohio mayor resigned Thursday two days after he was arrested for allegedly recording underage girls while they were undressing.
Spencerville Village Council released a statement Friday saying former Mayor Phil Briggs was asked to resign this week and submitted his resignation on Thursday. Council President Darrell Pugin has assumed the position of mayor.
Briggs, the mayor of Spencerville, Ohio, was accused of recording teenage girls while they undressed and was arrested Tuesday.
Briggs was arraigned in Lima Municipal Court on Wednesday on charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor. He is being held in jail on a $200,085 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.
According to court documents, the offense happened on Monday. The Allen County Sheriff's Department said the two girls he is accused of recording are his girlfriend's daughters.
Briggs was sworn in as a Spencerville mayor on Dec. 31, 2019, according to a Facebook post from the Spencerville Police Department.
Spencerville is about 20 minutes west of Lima.
