Student facing criminal charges for allegedly attempting to stab principal at Robinson Elementary

The incident began as an argument between two students at Robinson Elementary School and ended when one of the students grabbed scissors and lunged at the principal.

TOLEDO, Ohio — UPDATE: At a hearing on March 14, the 15-year-old student admitted guilt to a felonious assault charge and was not found delinquent. Another hearing is scheduled on September 12 at 11 a.m. for final hearings and findings.

Original story below:

A student is facing criminal charges after allegedly attempting to attack the principal at a central Toledo elementary school Tuesday.

The incident began as a disagreement between two students at Robinson Elementary School at approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to Toledo Public Schools spokesperson Patty Mazur.

Principal James Jones was notified and brought the two students into his office. One of the students became agitated, grabbed a pair of scissors from Jones' desk and lunged at him, according to Mazur.

The student slashed Jones' coat but he was not injured, Mazur said. According to a Toledo police report, the student involved was 15 years old.

"Any time there is a disagreement between students, our principals are trained to reason and try to deescalate a situation, try to come to a peaceful agreement between any students that might be having an issue, which is what Dr. Jones tried to do today," Mazur said.

In addition to criminal charges, Mazur said the student will be disciplined by the district. The extent of the charges and disciplinary action was not specified.

Because the incident happened after school, there were not many other students in the building, according to Mazur. Robinson Elementary School will have class as usual on Wednesday.
