Suspect in custody after pointing gun at officers who returned fire, Toledo police say

Arie Hall-Jones fled police after a traffic stop and eventually pointed a gun at officers, who returned fire, Toledo police said. No one was injured in the incident.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A man in possession of a firearm while under disability was arrested Tuesday after he pointed a gun at officers who returned fire following a pursuit in south Toledo, police said in a press release.

No one was injured in the incident, according to Toledo police.

Detectives from the Toledo Gang Taskforce conducted a traffic stop on Arie Hall-Jones Tuesday afternoon at the Airport Highway and South Byrne Road intersection "in relation to intelligence gathered by the Crime Gun Intelligence Center" that Hall-Jones was in possession of a firearm he was not qualified to have as a convicted felon.

Detectives saw a firearm in his vehicle during the traffic stop and he fled in his vehicle with police pursuing him.

He eventually crashed into a light pole about two miles west at the intersection of Airport and Reynolds Road and his vehicle came to a rest just west of the intersection on Nela Parkway.

Hall-Jones then fled on foot behind the Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Center with a gun in hand that he pointed "in the direction of detectives causing them to fire their department issued handguns at him," according to Toledo police. According to a Toledo police report, Hall-Jones' weapon was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

The number of detectives who fired their guns was not provided in the Toledo police press release, but all of them will be placed on paid administrative leave per collective bargaining agreements.

Hall-Jones has been booked into Lucas County Jail on multiple felonies, police said.

"The involved detectives’ information, body-worn camera footage, and dash-cam footage will be released in the near future," the press release said.

Police charged Hall-Jones with the following: Having weapons while under indictment or convicted of felony, failure to comply, improperly handling firearms and resisting arrest while brandishing a deadly weapon.

He was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court Wednesday and had his total bond set at $55,000. His case was continued to Feb. 1 at 9 a.m.
