MELVINDALE, Mich. — A police officer in the Detroit suburb of Melvindale is dead and a suspect is on the run after a shooting on Sunday afternoon.
The Melvindale Police Dept. says 23-year-old officer Mohamed Said was shot and killed by 44-year-old Michael Lopez.
Police are continuing to look for Lopez who was last seen riding a bicycle shirtless.
Police also shared a picture of the tattoos on his arm and wrist.
He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Said just graduated from the Police Academy last year according to the Detroit Police memorial page.
Anyone with information is asked to call Melvindale police.
The is the second law enforcement officer who has been killed in the line of duty in southeast Michigan in the last month. In late June, a Hillsdale County Sheriff's deputy, William Butler, was shot and killed
