Toledo man accused of hiring hitman to kill woman pleads not guilty

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man accused of hiring a hitman to kill a woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and other charges.

Timothy Murphy, 47, is charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of menacing by stalking, multiple counts of intimidation of crime victim or witness and multiple counts of violating a protection order.

According to police reports, the victim told police that Murphy had been menacing her. The victim also said that she was informed that Murphy had hired someone "to cause serious physical harm to her."

Police reports said that the victim had been receiving text messages from an unknown male stating that Murphy had allegedly hired him to kill her and "he had put a hit on her."

According to the police report, the victim stated that the alleged hitman said he wasn't going to kill her because she had a child.

Murphy's bond was set at $1 million and his trial has been scheduled for Dec. 17.
