TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man was arraigned Wednesday after he allegedly forced someone into his home and assaulted and strangled the victim.
According to Toledo Municipal Court documents, 34-year-old Shaun Mendez forced a victim into his home by "repeatedly punching" and strangling the victim in a vehicle on April 18. Mendez is also accused of assaulting the victim with an axe handle "over an extended period," police said in documents.

The victim sustained numerous injuries, including multiple fractured ribs and injuries to the right shoulder and right arm. According to the court document, the injuries were confirmed through a hospital report.
Mendez was charged with strangulation, kidnapping and felonious assault. A judge set his bond at $150,000 and he is due back in court on May 8.
