Toledo man pleads guilty to robbing postal worker at gunpoint

Michael Bush, 22, faces a maximum of 25 years in prison. Investigators identified nearly 200 mail theft victims.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man has pleaded guilty in federal court to robbing a United States Postal Service worker last year of mail collection keys and other items at gunpoint, according to the U.S. District Court of Northern Ohio.

Michael Bush, 22, approached the worker while they were sitting in their USPS vehicle in south Toledo in July of last year and "grabbed keys for both the mail truck and the collection box and robbed the carrier at gunpoint of their personal cellphone and a USPS parcel scanner," according to a press release from the court on Monday.

A witness to the incident provided investigators with a description of Bush and the Toledo Police Department identified a vehicle involved in the theft as belonging to Bush through surveillance video of the robbery.

TPD and the United States Postal Inspection Service recovered a large garbage bag of U.S. Mail, "several firearms and rifle magazines" after executing a search warrant at Bush's residence, according to the court. Images on Bush's cellphone also showed him posing with firearms and "large stacks" of U.S. currency.

Investigators identified nearly 200 mail theft victims.

Bush is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 5 and faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
