TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man has been sentenced to prison for selling fentanyl that caused six overdoses and two deaths.
Gerald Isom, 49, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of distribution of fentanyl, the Department of Justice said.
According to court documents, on the evening of Dec. 26, 2019, Isom sold fentanyl to a group of five men who thought they were receiving cocaine. The group snorted the fentanyl and all five overdosed. Three of the men woke up to find out that two other members of the group had died as a result of ingesting the fentanyl.
Isom also sold fentanyl to another man who believed he was receiving cocaine resulting in his overdose, but survived after he was revived with Narcan, according to a press release from the DOJ.
In addition to the prison sentence, Isom was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay a $200 special assessment and $1,026 in restitution.
The DOJ said that the investigation was conducted by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
