TOLEDO, Ohio — A driver was arrested Wednesday after allegedly leading police on a chase in north Toledo, striking vehicles and having drugs in his possession.
According to a Toledo police report, 32-year-old Rasean Barringer was driving near Alexis Road and Hagman Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. when officers identified the vehicle as one that had been involved in other pursuits over the last week.
Officer initiated a traffic stop and pulled Barringer over. Crews approached the vehicle, but Barringer sped off. Police followed Barringer onto a highway, the report said, making it to a a bend until Barringer ran into and struck civilian vehicles that were stopped due to a crash that Ohio State Highway Patrol crews were managing. Barringer also struck an OSHP vehicle, causing minor damage.
According to the police report, Toledo police officers were unaware that OSHP was responding to the crash prior to the incident with Barringer, as they did not have communications with the state highway patrol.
Toledo police continued following Barringer's vehicle, which had sustained damage and was almost completely disabled by the time it exited the roadway onto Jeep Parkway. Barringer failed to negotiate a roundabout, went over the curb and became stuck.
Police conducted a felony stop, but Barringer fled on foot. According to a court document, Barringer fled with a duffle bag in hand, then discarded the duffle bag on the ground. Officers then apprehended and arrested Barringer.
The duffle bag was located and inside, officers found a loaded firearm, six grams of crack cocaine and four grams of fentanyl, according to the report.
Barringer was taken to and treated at a hospital, then booked into Lucas County Jail, where he was charged with felony counts of failure to comply, having weapons under disability, tampering with evidence and carrying concealed weapons. Barringer was also charged with misdemeanor counts of obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
