TOLEDO, Ohio — One suspect is in custody after allegedly injuring himself and officers during a narcotics arrest Thursday.

In a report, Toledo police said they spotted 26-year-old Deontae Brown selling narcotics at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Bancroft Street around 3:30 p.m. Police said Brown jumped into a vehicle and fled; officers then initiated a traffic stop at a parking lot near Detroit Avenue and Monroe Street.

Police said they found Brown to have narcotics. In a court document, police said Brown had in his pocket a crack pipe, a pill bottle containing suspected meth pills, suspected meth powder and a white pill. Brown claimed to have "shoved more narcotics in his rectum," police wrote in the report.

Police claimed in the report they gave Brown "the benefit of the doubt", but that Brown attempted to run from officers. Brown only went a few feet away and then allegedly had a "full-on meltdown," police said.

According to officers, Brown "tried to slip his cuffs, bite officers, create a fake seizure, create self-inflicted injury by smacking his head against the concrete" and also allegedly fought with officers, emergency personnel and hospital staff.

Two officers were injured in the incident, police said. One court document indicated a police officer's elbow was seriously hurt due to Brown alleged behavior. A second officer broke his right hand in the incident.

Brown was taken to the hospital, then later released on five felony charges and a parole warrant, police said in the report. Records in Toledo Municipal Court indicate Brown was charged with the following charges:

  • Trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony
  • Drug abuse, a third degree-felony
  • Two counts of Assault on a peace officer where victim suffered serious physical harm, a fourth-degree felony
