TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police found "several deceased puppies" inside of a dog crate in the backyard of a south Toledo home just before 3 a.m. on Monday, according to a police report.
Police responded to a call of possibly deceased animals at a property on Prouty Street near the Anthony Wayne Trail and South Avenue intersection.
The property appeared vacant, according to the police report, and officers went into the backyard and found the crate and puppies. The number of dead puppies is not provided in the report.
Two unidentified people were later discovered on the property and "both claimed no knowledge of the deceased animals," according to Toledo police.
Scene photographs and reports were given to the Toledo Humane Society for investigation and potential charges, TPD says.
The Lucas County Dog Warden, who was called to the scene when the officers discovered the dead puppies, took the carcasses and crate as evidence.
